My name is ML Shade and I am trying, once again, to start a blog. You know what they say, 5th time’s the charm!

Before you ask, yes ML Shade is a pen name, but as it’s an amalgamation of my grandmothers’ and great-grandmother’s names, it’s also a meaningful one. Mostly I have it because I’m a high school English teacher. I’m not ashamed of anything I write or post, and none of it is inappropriate, but I just want one tiny slice of my life to be private and not immediately accessible to my students and their parents.

In the past I went on an odyssey into the depths of the internet, trying to figure out how to write a blog and how to make it successful. I always saw the same advice: know your niche, use SEO, create relevant content, identify your target audience, blah blah blah. And I tried that. I really did. It just never felt right or fun, so eventually those blogs died and were deleted.

And then I had a realization: I’m not trying to make any money off this.

Literally all I want to do is talk to cool people about cool stuff.

So that’s what I’m going to do. I think my overarching idea is something about creative writing and maybe at some point, if I manage to stop sitting in my hands, I’ll get a book published and I’ll be able to talk about that. But for now, I’m just going to talk about cool stuff and hopefully meet some cool people.
